As one of those people who does not necessarily listen to reviews, I decided to try this one out for myself. You get the feeling that the idea for the film rested mainly on exposing mammaries and the need to provide employment for several extras, while the plot and script was scribbled on a Post -It note. The prolonged fight sequences, with a naff rock soundtrack, the emphasis on such cheesy lines and clichés eg: the Isle DE la' Morte, sexy girls in distress and part nudity, should be funny, but they are not. Possibly the crew wanted this to be a "so bad it's good film", and in that they failed. Please, as a spoiler, know this film is dire and a waste of your life when you could be watching a film like Undead, which is a well crafted and funny piece.
Where do I begin?<br/><br/>I guess I&#39;ll start with the fact I turned this movie off at the 30 minute mark, and I was pulling teeth to last that long, within the first 5 minutes… (this may be a spoiler, but not in my opinion. You won&#39;t enjoy this movie either way)<br/><br/>Like i was saying in the first 5 minutes we are introduced to a single survivor, who then goes on to tell the story and retrace back to the beginning of the story and introduce some of the other characters after he is finished describing each character he says &#39;if only they hadn&#39;t gone, they&#39;d still be alive.&#39; Well there you go folks, it pretty much ruins the already predictable ending.<br/><br/>My main concern is that the Director (and I use that term extremely loosely) has gone on to direct another video game to movie; Alone in the Dark, which was in and out of theaters faster than pushing the restart button on your Playstation. But what a surprise, he is still allowed to direct after these two travesty&#39;s he still has 2 more video game to movies in production! Bloodrayne and FarCry, both games I enjoy, and i was quite excited when i read what stars are to be in Bloodrayne, but when I found out that Uwe Boll is directing it, I felt nothing but pity for the actors.<br/><br/>There is a reason that movies based on video games are never that good… 1. because the directors (such as Uwe Boll and Paul Anderson) are allowed to make them! 2. My guess is that the Production companies don&#39;t care how the movie is made or who makes them because they know the popularity of the games will sell theater seats.
Director Uwe Boll wholeheartedly embraces the film's concept, and with some fancy editing and a pulsing soundtrack, the effect really is like watching a video game.
In 2003, House of the Dead, the first video game adaptation of Uwe Boll, who has gotten himself a certain reputation in this area, was released. The film is a mundane zombie flick with a shallow plot and a tendency to be trash. Five years later, Lions Gate has released a Director&#39;s Cut version of the film on DVD. The film was made into a comedy with new music, alternative scenes, outtakes and several overlay-commentaries - which is the reason for the subtitle &quot;Funny Version&quot; on the DVD&#39;s front cover.
